Project description
Ford FW 30 is the smaller of the two models running a 280 Hp none turbo Cummins 903 V8 engine coupled to a Dana Spicer 10 speed manual box “once you find a gear you stick in it!”
Reason for Job:
This tractor has arrived from local farm
Was jumping out of gear and had a lot of steel in oil. Tractor is in regular use so customer was keen to get it right!
Main problems found:
Transmission was stripped to reveal a failed needle roller bearing on centre shaft. This caused shaft to drop and force gear shift selector rings to jump apart
Clutch was also tired and tractor had many age related oil leaks under the cab
Remedy:
Remove cab on wash bay the wash inner chassis thoroughly
Remove transmission from tractor in workshop the push rolling shell outside
Strip trans , replace bearings, repair shafts then rebuild and setup
Have flywheel skimmed and replace clutch with new
Replace many metres of hydraulic hose while cab was off and upgrade hydraulic pump
Finally re-fit gearbox and cab then field test for a good few hours with a subsoiler on
