The transmission from this Unimog was brought to us for a refresh as the customer was overhauling the rest of the truck.
Reason for Job:
Transmission was badly corroded with a number of oil and air leaks.
Main problems found:
Gear box internals were in good fettle however externally, this was a different story. Many of the air and electrical components had suffered from corrosion and had failed or were failing. The main casings had also suffered from a very deep flaky rot.
Oil seals and o-rings had gone hard causing a number of leaks.
Remedy:
Complete strip down and rebuild of the transmission. This included sending casings off to be soda blasted; this is a less invasive method than the standard shot blasting. To gain an acceptable finish, we spent many hours with a needle scaler and wire wheel to ensure surfaces were to the required standard. We had to replace many of the gear actuation parts as they were past the point of repair.

Workshop and Mobile Services
Our large workshop gives us the capability to work on the smallest ground care equipment up to the largest articulated tractors.
In 2019 we upgraded our business unit to include a dedicated engine and transmission workshop. Making these improvements gives us the ability to be more efficient, whilst maintaining the best quality.
We also offer mobile services for onsite repairs, diagnostics and fault finding (UK mainland only).
