Project description
Steiger Panther lll 325 powered by a Caterpillar 14.6L 6-cylinder diesel coupled to a Dana Spicer SST 10 Speed Split-Torque Transmission
Imported by Offchurch Tractors they were arguably one of the most pioneering cultivation machines to enter the British market in the Late 70’s/early 80’s. The only implements that could be purchased to go behind were Wil-Rich or Record.
Reason for Job:
Customer wanted a full re-build so it can be put into their collection. This would include mechanical as well as cosmetic and upholstery.
Main jobs included in overhaul:
Cab was removed and totally stripped. This included removal of the windows which revealed badly corroded frames; Luke Cope spent many hours re-working and repairing. A new interior was ordered and a lot of wiring replaced or repaired.
The axels were removed & inspected, no issues were found so just prepped for paint.
Centre pivot had some major play so was completely removed and new bushing kit fitted.
Engine was dry and clean on arrival so apart from a service and some other small parts it was left alone.
Transmission was jumping out of 3rd gear so as with our FW30 article, we overhauled the box.
Radiators were sent away to be checked and painted.
Whole Panther chassis and cab went to Roy Dennies Signs Ltd to be shot blasted and painted.
Once all was painted, Luke Cope assembled the tractor and tested.
Finally, Roy Dennies had the tractor back to touch up any marks incurred during assembly and to fit final decals.
Return tractor to customer.
