Projects
Project description
Here we have our first job of the year extracted from a Trantor Series 2; with a Leyland 498 Turbo engine and an Eaton 5 speed 475 SMA transmission, both in for overhaul.
Reason for Job:
Engine was breathing heavily and struggled to start on a cold day, transmission had lost low range and had a number of oil leaks.
Main problems found:
Engine – Liners heavily pitted, piston and rings badly worn; general ware and tear throughout engine.
Transmission – Broken internal retaining pin for low range and damaged hard seals/o-rings for oil leaks.
Remedy:
Engine – Complete overhaul! This included new, pistons & rings, liners, camshaft & followers, main & big end shells, oil and water pump. We also reconditioned the turbocharger, fuel pump & injectors, cylinder head, air compressor and hydraulic pumps.
Transmission – generally in good condition apart from the issues mentioned above. The pin was repaired and bearings and seals replaced.
Both engine and transmission were painted and mated back together before returning to the customer.
